So You are a Has-Been-Exchange-Student...
Some Reflections after my exchange in Denmark..
- The experience is BLAST! and I personally encourage everyone (who does not have the fortune to study abroad) to at least try a stint overseas.. even if it means paying an arm and leg to go for it!
- Take it as a break from NUS! I mean we all need that.. right?
- General (mis)conception is that SEP=Travel travel travel... It's true that I've travelled alot and even started off with the single aim of conquering Europe! However given another go at it.. I would rather spend more time in Denmark with my foreign friends and not travel so often.. U can travel anywhere any other time in your entire life.. but interaction and experience with friends from all over the world.. it's just now or never!!
RL and I both feel that it is actually more fun if u take part in school activities and interact with the local community more.. it's really one thing that I regret most!
- Europe is an ideal place for SEP! Actually I think it is equally fun in any country, so it doesn't really matter where u go.. (according to my friend: anywhere other than Singapore is FUN!) More importantly is the company that you have!
- Loved the change of seasons... The feeling when Spring comes after Winter and the first time of experiencing snow... it is truly indescribable
- Do not stick so much with fellow Singaporeans.. Have a right balance and go all out to know new friends from all over the world! Bring in new perspectives and much fun to your life toO!
I've made some life-long friends during my exchange and although I live the farthest away from them (cos they are all in Europe), I promised I will visit them at least once in my lifetime again..Missing all of them now...
Promise I won't break this promise.. (Edita got my promise recorded down!)
- Don't worry so much about studying! (Unless u go to the states)... I think it is generally quite slack, especially in Europe.. Have fun partying and travelling!!
- SEP in denmark made me not shy away from Project work. I used to siam modules that require project work in NUS.
At any one time, I was working on more than 2 projects! It also made me realise that I actually learn much more when I do project work rather than doing (or rather copying) tutorials and assignments and mugging for incessant tests and exams. Most of the time it doesn't matter if they don't make sense to you cos u just have to follow the standard steps to solve problems and tadah- u get good grades but u still don't quite understand but it is ok cos everybody is equally clueless.
Probably project work in Denmark seems so much more manageable to me cos u don't have to juggle project deadlines on top of tests, assignments, tutorials and exams at the same time!
Life is really so crazy in NUS...
- Looking back.. SEP seems just like a dream for me.. aWONDERFUL dream.. and many of my dreams were realized during SEP too!
Too bad dreams only remain in your memory and you hardly ever get a chance relive your dream after you wake up...
And sometimes.. you just don't want to wake up but you have to
But you just can't dream forever...
This dream will be etched in my memory forever!!
Live your dreams too!!
Add colours to your life!!
